Dog ownership carries with it the chore of purchasing many dog supplies. In order to properly care for a dog and to comply with certain local laws, the owner must have a number of dog supplies and accessories ready for their new family member. Some of these items are necessary, others are merely conveniences. It is important to know exactly what you’ll need to properly care for your dog.
Most of the truly necessary dog supplies you will need are fairly obvious. As soon as you get your dog, you’ll need bowls for the dog’s food and water. Mid size to large dogs have a tendency to move their dog food bowls around the room as they eat. This can be quite noisy and can also be a pain to have to find their bowl each time you want to feed your pet.
A few ways this problem can be solved is by using a heavy ceramic bowl that is difficult for the dog to move around. The only problem with this is that a ceramic bowl can easily break. A sturdy plastic bowl with a rubber lining on the bottom can be useful as well. The rubber on the bottom prevents the bowl from sliding around as Rover enjoys his meal. This is a better option and will last a much longer time.
You will also need a leash and a collar right away. You can start by choosing a plain and simple collar and leash and move towards a more elaborate and personal dog assessor. More importantly, the size of the collar and the pull strength of the leash should be considered. License tags are very important but if you don’t have that right away, having your new dog wearing an I.D. tag is imperative.
If you live in a big city like New York, Chicago, or other metropolitan area, you’ll need to purchase a “pooper scooper.” Many cities have laws against owners who simply allow their dogs to poop anywhere or leave little Poodle Bombs all over the place. For this crappy behavior, fines can be accessed and these can be quite high. Better to take care of this before you have problems and it’s the right thing to do.
